Completely nerded out at TWS's Loire tasting in the gorgeous Old Town Hall in Chelsea. The Loire is France's longest river at 1,006 km with over 400 historic Chateaux. It's an amazing wine study since the climate and terroir changes so much that it is subdivided into 5 different sections. And here they all are!

The most famous is their Sauvignon Blanc, especially the Sancerre, which also makes delicious Pinot Noir. The last tables included Domaine Cailbourdin, whose young Pouilly-Fumé was subtle and their older (2020) was a wood-aged version with full body, long finish and pleasant intensity. Domain Serge Laloue featured the Society's Sancerre, which is an excellent expression of the grape's expected profile.

Maison Bougrier delivered the best bubbles, their Premier Idylle Vouvray Brut... with some nutty complexity it easily compared to champagne and you can get 3 of these for the same price. They also make yhe Society's Chenin, a 100% Cabernet Franc which is one of my favourite grapes and delivered body, length, intensity from red and black berry flavours with hints of spice, pepper and herbs. At 9.95 a bottle, a ridiculous steal.

Lastly, rosé... I was really pleased to try the Perle de Rosé from Domaine de la Renaudie. Made froml local grapes Pineau d'Aunis and Grolleau, this was a real winner with lovely rose on the nose, fresh strawb/raspberry on the tongue with a bit of white pepper. 11.95.

Free delivery. 40 pounds to be a member and they give you 20 pounds off your first order. Order on of each of these and tell me if you agree...

One of my favourite regions of France! It sounds amazing, but Chelsea is a little bit too far out of town to get too - hope TWS does a city based repeat at some point! Agree they are great at arranging wine tastings! 😍
