At 18, his father started charging him rent. At 30, he finally understood why. For 12 years, he handed over part of his hard-earned money every month. He thought his father was being unnecessarily strict, especially when other parents let their children live at home for free. But on his wedding day, his father surprised him with something he never expected. A notebook documenting every rent payment he'd made over the years, along with a savings account containing all that money, plus interest. What he believed was money lost had quietly been building his financial future. His father hadn't been collecting rent to make a profit. He had been teaching his son how to budget, stay consistent, and take responsibility for his finances. And when the time came to begin a new chapter of his life, those years of discipline became a financial head start. The lesson? Sometimes, the greatest gift a parent can give isn't money itself, but the habits that teach their children how to manage it. It's a powerful story about patience, financial responsibility, and a father's love expressed through actions rather than words. Whether this story is true or simply a lesson passed down, its message is worth remembering. Good parenting isn't always about making life easier today. Sometimes, it's about preparing your children for tomorrow. Would you use this approach to teach your children financial responsibility? In one of Manipur’s largest public demonstrations since ethnic violence erupted in 2023, over one lakh people reportedly took to the streets of Imphal on October 31, demanding an end to the prolonged conflict, justice for victims and the safe return of thousands of families displaced from their homes. While local newspaper The Sangai Express estimated participation at over one lakh, other national media reports described the gathering as involving thousands, without independently confirming the higher figure. The massive rally brought together members of the Meitei, Naga and other indigenous communities, with protesters marching through the streets carrying placards reading “Save Manipur” and “We Want Peace, Not Proxy War.” Organised by the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) alongside several Naga civil society organisations, the demonstration called for the immediate termination of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement between the government and Kuki militant groups. Protesters accused the Centre of facilitating what they described as a “proxy war” against indigenous communities, an allegation made by the organisers rather than an independently established fact. They also demanded the withdrawal of Assam Rifles from certain areas, stronger security measures and the rehabilitation of displaced families. The demonstration began at Tiddim Ground in Kwakeithel and culminated in a public gathering at THAU Ground in Thangmeiband. Similar rallies were reported in several hill districts, including Senapati and Chandel. Businesses and educational institutions remained closed in parts of Imphal, while security personnel were deployed along the protest route. At the gathering, organisers adopted a six-point resolution demanding government accountability, the protection of indigenous communities and the removal of Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen. They also called for the state government’s resignation if their demands were not addressed. The protests come amid renewed tensions and killings in a state that has struggled with ethnic violence, displacement and deep divisions since May 2023.
Kisah pilu dialami Putri Fadillah (18), gadis asal Kecamatan Maligano, Kabupaten Muna, Sulawesi Tenggara.
