A Ghost at our Cottage… 👻 Well, it is Halloween after all… so I thought it might be the perfect opportunity to share a few of our rather curious experiences with the unexplained. We live in a farmhouse dating back to 1719 and I’ve always felt a presence here, nothing sinister, thankfully. The old curator at the Castle confirmed that ours isn’t the only farm steading on the Raby estate where the television has been known to switch itself on at 3am, at full volume, for absolutely no apparent reason! I’ve had two rather curious experiences while working as a room guide at the castle, both in my favourite room. On the first occasion, I felt a very firm tug on the back of my blazer. I actually gasped, thinking I’d caught it on an ornament or the door handle, but I was nowhere near either. It felt rather mischievous and playful and, strangely enough, I wasn’t frightened at all. On another occasion, in that very same room, I caught sight of what looked like a ghostly reflection in a bookcase. But perhaps my strangest experience happened many years ago, shortly after my mum passed away. While visiting a customer, I saw a gentleman standing beside her table, quite clearly, folding newspapers. I described exactly what I’d seen to the lady, who immediately recognised him as her late husband. She told me that he used to fold his newspapers in precisely that spot. I’d never met him. Now, I don’t pretend to have all the answers, but I’ve certainly experienced a few things over the years that I simply can’t explain. Our little ghostly visitor today was just for a bit of Halloween fun, but Daisy certainly took to her role beautifully, and I think you’ll agree she rather stole the show 👻 Are you a believer? Have you ever experienced something you simply couldn’t explain? Do share them in the comments, I’d be fascinated to read your stories too. Happy Halloween from our little corner of the countryside 🎃👻🍂 Lisa xx . . . . . 🏷️ Halloween | Ghost Stories | Real Ghost Experiences | Unexplained Experiences | Haunted Cottage | Golden Retrievers | Historic Farmhouse | English Country Living | 1710 Farmhouse | Golden Retrievers at Halloween |

This, and the internet was never invented. 📱 I’ve often wondered whether life before the internet was better. Simpler, certainly. There seemed to be less noise in our lives, fewer distractions, and perhaps a little more peace in our minds. We weren’t constantly bombarded with information and opinions, chasing cheap dopamine hits with mind numbing scrolling. We had more time to ourselves, more time for one another, and perhaps a greater appreciation for the simple pleasures in life. 💻 The internet has undoubtedly given us extraordinary things, but I can’t help wondering what we’ve lost along the way. We spend so much of our lives staring at screens, often at the expense of the people around us. We have become hermits, preferring to binge on Netflix than to go out and laugh over a drink with friends and strangers. There’s irony in the fact that, in a world that’s never been more connected, we somehow seem to have become more disconnected from one another. Perhaps progress has given us a great deal, but sometimes I wonder whether a quieter, slower, more human way of living might have been worth holding on to. What do you think? ♥️ My Nara Bronze Range Rover L322 was from @harryalexanderclassics and my beautiful car mascot was from @louis.lejeune.ltd (as was Her Majesty’s) 🐕 👑 #countrylife #pub #countryliving #internet #www
