Kemi "Olodo" Badenoch is a racial gatekeeping political prostitute celebrating Britain’s proceeds of historical injustice against Black people while dismissing the legitimate claims of those whose ancestors paid the price and still bear the brunt today. Britain didn't abolish slavery. It went from kidnapping and human trafficking millions of Africans to enslaving entire nations of Africans then falsely claims it abolished slavery when Colonisation was Slavery 2.0. Britain’s current discourse on ‘not apologising and not paying reparations’ for one of the gravest crimes against humanity is an indictment of its moral conscience, its historical honesty and its willingness to acknowledge the enduring consequences of wealth accumulated through the enslavement, exploitation and dehumanisation of millions of African people. It exposes the contradiction of a nation willing to celebrate the wealth, power and institutions built during its imperial expansion, yet reluctant to confront the human cost upon which so much of that prosperity was founded.

Where do I even start? This is such a bittersweet moment. I am a first-generation college student and the first in my family to attend a Historically Black College or University. My journey didn’t start off perfectly. I was confused, unsure of myself, and overwhelmed. But somewhere along the way, I found my peace and fell in love with public health. I’m one step closer to my goal of being a clinical research health professional. I want to thank all my friends and family who have stood by me throughout this journey, encouraged me, and reminded me that I could do it even when I doubted myself. And to those who thought I wouldn’t make it, look at me now. Sometimes, it’s best to let your accomplishments speak for themselves. Younger me always thought I had to be perfect. But I’ve learned that not everything will go your way, plans will change, and life will test you. Still, the storm never lasts forever. A little advice to anyone still figuring things out: The sky is the limit. Don’t limit yourself just because you lack confidence or feel like you’re not ready. You’ll never know what you’re capable of until you try. It’s okay to take risks, make mistakes, learn along the way, and grow. Remember, everyone has their own path and their own timeline. Don’t compare your journey to someone else’s. Trust yourself enough to see where life can take you. Through every high and low, every doubt, and every obstacle, WE MADE IT. WE DID IT! And all of a sudden, I am obsessed with adding words to my art. The zine fair at The Goat Farm in Atlanta last weekend was absolutely fantastic and so inspiring! Also highly recommend seeing Wildwood. The artistry of that movie is unreal! You put all of these things together and I was compelled to make my first zine. They’re super easy to make, and there are endless possibilities for how to do it. I just used a piece of cardstock, some acrylic paint, charcoal, and ink for mine. I sell the ink at CozyLark.com and everything else can be found at your local craft store or online. This is such a fun form of expression, and anyone can do it!!
