I Lock Myself in the Room, Cry and Break Down Behind Closed Doors — Nollywood actress Funke Akindele Reflects on Struggles of Being A Celebrity

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has opened up about her emotional struggles, revealing that she sometimes breaks down in tears behind closed doors despite her cheerful public image.

The actress made this revelation during an interview with CNN, where she spoke about the pressures of fame, public scrutiny of her relationships and the challenges of maintaining her personal well-being.

Speaking about how she deals with difficult moments, Akindele said:
“I cry. I lock myself in the room, cry, break down, and hit the bed. But I just pick myself up and come back to life.”

The filmmaker acknowledged that the happiness people see whenever she appears in public does not always reflect what she goes through privately.

She also recalled how public opinion sometimes made her question her personal decisions and worry about how people would perceive her.

“Sometimes I tell myself, you’ve made a mistake again. How are people going to judge you?” she said.

However, Akindele explained that she has gradually learnt to face challenges, pick herself up and move forward without allowing public criticism to define her.

Excited to share my new paper, “The neurobiology of menopause: Implications for brain aging and Alzheimer’s risk,” now published online in #neuron @cellpress 🌟🧠

The review brings together evidence from human studies, preclinical research, and neuroscience to explore a question that has been overlooked for far too long: How do ovarian hormones shape the brain throughout life, and what happens when those hormones change?

The central idea is that the brain is an active estrogen-sensing organ. Estrogens do much more than regulate reproduction: they help regulate brain energy metabolism, synaptic plasticity, vascular function, and neuroimmune processes.

This has important implications for what I like to call the three Ps: puberty, pregnancy / postpartum, and perimenopause. These are 3 major neuroendocrine transitions during which the brain adapts to profound changes in ovarian hormone signaling.

This also means menopause is not an alien, isolated reproductive event, but part of a lifelong conversation between the brain and ovaries.

I also discuss evidence linking menopause to Alzheimer’s risk, the complex role of menopause hormone therapy (MHT), and the possibility that midlife represents an important window for risk assessment and prevention.

Lyrics ni aty thy😭
