A sheepish hello from me, and like a broken record, I once again am sorry for not sharing photos of my work. I still tattoo, and I still love the physical act of tattooing and drawing of course, but my feelings about being a “tattoo artist” are complicated. I’ve lost my passion for it quite a bit, I know, that’s not exactly what you’d like to hear from me but it’s just true.

I started off wide eyed and excited, but years in I felt an unspoken, and sometimes spoken, pressure to say “yes” to anything and everything I was seemingly capable of that came my way. Things that I copied without changing anything at the clients request, tattooed things way too small, dainty and placements that aren’t favorable to a long lasting tattoo, subject matter I don’t morally agree with. I’ve done a lot of stuff I’m not proud of, and I feel sorry and awful to say that as I know how much meaning tattoos hold to the ones wearing them. Again, it’s complicated, isn’t it? I’ve consistently undercharged out of guilt and just wanting to be liked by y’all. I just don’t know where I should stand or where to land in this world…

I don’t feel like I fit in with other tattooers. I don’t have funny fight stories or scandalous trysts to share like the rest of y’all. I’m hopelessly boring, my preferred state is “asleep in bed with my cats.” I want to love it and I want to be one of those cool artists that specializes in their own distinct style. I do see my style shine through in a way, and for that I’m grateful. And I’m especially grateful for the people who trust and encourage me to “do my thing.” I should be grateful to everyone who has allowed me to mark their skin permanently, and I am, I just have some regrets. Again, I know no one wants to hear that, but I hope my honesty resonates even if it’s all over the place and might not make sense.
