Happy World Sandwich Day! In 1762, John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich, refused to leave a 24-hour gambling table for dinner and ordered his salted beef tucked between two slices of bread so he wouldn’t grease the playing cards—a late-night habit celebrated every November 3rd on World Sandwich Day, the Earl’s birthday. Long reigning at the very top of the TasteAtlas ranking of the world’s best sandwiches is a creation far removed from British gaming parlors: Turkey’s 🇹🇷tombik döner (or gobit kebab). What sets this street food classic apart is its “chubby” (tombik) pocket-style pide bun, which masters press directly against the rotating vertical spit so the airy crumb sponges up the hot, spiced meat drippings and crisps on the grill before being packed with shaved meat, onions, and tomatoes. Which sandwich takes the #1 spot on your personal list? Video: @himmetpolatt

A video of All India Students’ Association (AISA) president Neha Bora alleging that priests commit rape inside temples has triggered a political controversy, with the BJP accusing her of insulting Hindu religious institutions and questioning Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s support for her. The undated clip circulated on November 3. In the video, Bora argues that women need protection from what she describes as the “Brahmanical system”. She alleges that the social order enables the oppression of vulnerable groups and leaves even Brahmin women unsafe. “Priests commit rapes inside temples,” she says, referring to sexual violence cases in Unnao and Kathua while making her argument. Sharing the footage, BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari described Bora as Rahul Gandhi’s “poster girl” and accused her of displaying “Hindu hate”. He sought to connect her remarks with Congress’s ideology, alleging that the party was targeting Hindu faith for electoral interests. BJP leader Gaurav Bhatia also condemned the comments as insulting to Hindu priests. These were the BJP leaders’ allegations. Bora’s reference to Kathua concerns the 2018 rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl who was held captive inside a village temple. In June 2019, a court convicted six men, with temple caretaker Sanji Ram among three sentenced to life imprisonment. The criticism centres on Bora’s sweeping language about priests and religious institutions. Responding to the controversy, BJP leader Nalin Kohli said rape was a heinous crime that should not be communalised, and demanded an apology and clarification over her remarks.
Livin’ in America 🎶
I’ve been bootstrapping @washedup.app for 9 months now after moving back in with my beautiful mother in Pasadena, CA because I believe in it so much. Being accepted to an accelerator like @a16z would change the game for WashedUp. Allow us to go even faster, build a network, a team, and most importantly continue making a difference in people’s lives. (and allow me as a solo founder to have a backing, of people AND investment 🙌) I wanted to share my submission video to give everyone a look at how I’m trying to tell this story. 3 min isn’t enough time. But maybe someone will hear me 📣 #a16zspeedrun #speedrunsr008 #buildinpublic #solo-founder
