Tech Sales vs Medical Sales — Let me save you 12 months. 👇

💻 Tech Sales

1. Fully remote or hybrid, meaning you can sell from anywhere with just your laptop.

2. OTE (On-Target Earnings) includes your base salary, commission, and often equity—the part that can create real long-term wealth.

3. Sales cycles are typically 1–6 months, so deals close faster, commissions come sooner, and you get feedback quickly.

4. You’ll mainly sell to other businesses (B2B SaaS), where buyers are usually tech-savvy professionals.

5. The skills you gain transfer easily across SaaS companies worldwide, opening opportunities in the US, UK, Europe, and more.

6. Career progression is fast. Moving from SDR to Enterprise Account Executive in 3–5 years is realistic, with $300K+ OTE achievable at the top level.

🏥 Medical Sales

1. Primarily a field-based role where you’ll spend time in hospitals, operating theatres, and clinics, often observing or supporting medical procedures.

2. OTE generally includes base salary and commission, but equity is uncommon, making compensation more stable but with less long-term upside.

3. Sales cycles usually range from 6–18 months, relying heavily on relationships, resulting in slower deal closures and commission growth.

4. You’ll sell to surgeons, specialists, and procurement teams, where trust and credibility often take years to establish.

5. Skills are more specialized, so moving between orthopaedics, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices isn’t always straightforward.

6. Career growth is strong but typically slower, with senior medical sales representatives often earning around $200K–250K OTE.
