The Bird of Al-Jawlan. 2026. Acrylic on canvas. 18 x 24 in.

Four years ago I visited occupied Palestine. I saw the brutal apartheid walls and the machinery of occupation for myself. However, in this painting I depict Israel's crimes more subtly.

Overlooking the valley, the decommissioned Israeli tank embeds itself into the stolen, Syrian land. But notice the bird on the tank's main armament, which is even there in the original photo. Resting on an instrument of violent coercion, this tiny bird embodies freedom and natural legitimacy. It is indifferent to our borders and will never comprehend ethnic cleansing or colonization.

From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free. 🇵🇸
