When I was on Paris my sister and I where stuck in the metro because her ticket to the exit doesn't work. We buy the one for all the zones in Paris. And then a lady saw we were struggling with that and helped us to exit. Later we buyed the card île de France and it was better. The French are among the most misunderstood people in the world but the more passionate about everything.

I think most French in Paris just think their life is the best. The truth is they smoke and drink like there is no tomorrow because they are unhappy inside. Don't let them ruin your mood.
