My condolences to the entire family. So sad to hear this unfortunate news ……… 🙏 I had an opportunity to visit Cleopatra for my birthday in June of 2004. We had just opened Thanda Safari lodge and ever since, every meal is introduced in a similar way to how Richard used to conduct his legendary supper time menu performances ………. He was so articulate and knowledgeable and humoured us with his stories of how he had acquired the ingredients and how he was going to prepare the meal, that I went back to Zululand, and to this day all chefs at Thanda Safari try and emulate his menu introductions every single meal of every day ……… so this tribute is in memory of Richard. !!!! When I went back many years later to Cleopatra he was no longer doing the performances himself but I recall how thrilled he was that we had adopted elements of his approach, however I don’t think we ever did it as well as he did !!! So here’s to you Richard for inspiring over 22 years of performances !!!! You are indeed a legend !!!! Fond regards - Pierre Delvaux
