3 months ago๐๐ปโโ๏ธ I know you've probably seen this book everywhere already, but I'm a little behind with my reviews, so here's mine. Some books aren't even on your radar... until they unexpectedly become one of your favourite reads of the year. That's exactly what happened to me. I walked into my favourite bookshop looking for a gift for a colleague, and the bookseller asked me, "Have you read this one? I absolutely loved it. It's so original." A few minutes later, I walked out with an extra book for myself. Addictive, original and completely unexpected. That's how I'd describe this 481 page novel. The storytelling, the way it moves between two different time periods, and the sharp dialogue kept me turning the pages. It was one of those books where you keep saying, "Just one more chapterโ. Natalie Heller Mills builds a fascinating story by letting us experience two versions of the same woman's life. One is rooted in today's world, where image and social media seem to define everything; the other throws her into life two centuries earlier. Natalie is a wonderfully complex character. At times you'll empathise with her, and at others you'll find her incredibly frustrating. One of the things I enjoyed most was gradually discovering how she became the person she is and how her family shaped her journey. And that ending... There were a few details I wish had been explored a little further, but that didn't take away from what was an outstanding read. It's a clever satire on our obsession with appearances and the extremes people are willing to reach for likes and online validation. And the cover? Absolutely stunning. One last thought: while reading this book, I couldn't help being reminded of parts of แดสแด สแดแด๊ฑแด แด๊ฐ แดส แดแดแดสแดส by Shari Franke, although that one tells a true storyโฆ If you're curious to see how the author describes her own novel, I've left the link below. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DWeENW9iB-i/?igsh=amN5ejNqc2YxOG51
A mi em va encantar, รฉs molt original." I, sense gairebรฉ adonar-me'n, vaig sortir amb un llibre nou. ๐ Addictiva, original i sorprenent.
