🚒💨 FUN FACT!

Ever wonder how fast a fire engine driver can go during an emergency?

Typically, about 10 MPH over the posted speed limit—but there’s a catch! 👀 🚨 Freeways and interstates?

👉 It depends! Road conditions, traffic, weather, visibility, the type of apparatus, and the circumstances of the emergency all matter.

Lights and sirens don’t mean “pedal to the metal!” 😂 Firefighters still have to drive with due regard for everyone’s safety.

Fast matters. Getting there safely matters more!

CHP is 15 over, but if they here a mayday or firefighter down alarm go out over the radio you better get out of the way

TECHNICALLY only 10 mph over on perfect visibility, but not a lot of drivers follow that to big calls

Depends on who officer is in that seat. Usually like 20 over safely, but on a 3yr old drowning patient I went 90 the whole 10 min ride to hospital with police escort. Did I get in trouble yup, but baby boi is alive, very rough road for him, he was under for 4+ minutes before we were dispatched. But a 30 year old lawn care worker is who pulled him out and followed direction from dispatcher in Spanglish. Dispatch did an amazing job also had flight staged at pad, local stabilized then we flew to a level 1 all with in 25 minutes, from call to to landing at level 1 was 42 minutes.

As a former engineer, only as fast as is safe. You’re no use if you don’t get to the scene!
