A bit of a brooding feel to this one even though it was a beautiful sun-filled day when we set out to walk Cwar y Gifran, the escarpment edge of the Waun Rydd plateau in the Brecon Beacons.
We sat high upon the ridge by a little stream that tumbled down into the dipping landscape that swept before us, enjoying our packed lunch and drinking in the inspiringly beautiful Welsh landscape.
This stunning landscape is sadly also the site of a WW2 plane crash where five Canadian crew members lost their lives during a training flight on July 6th, 1942.
A large amount of wreckage from the Wellington Bomber is still scattered at the site, along with a memorial cairn and plaque in memory of those allies that had perished.
The thought of their sacrifice has woven itself into my depiction of the landscape; a landscape that is at once both beautiful and haunting.
