Some paintings invite you to linger in the world they've created.
Cécile Carré’s 'Passage' is one of them.
Two masses of vegetation lean towards one another, holding open a space between them. Not quite a path, not quite water, not quite anywhere.
It feels like a threshold without a door - a place suspended somewhere between memory and imagination, where you’re left at the edge of recognition.
There’s something wonderfully contemplative about this work. The longer you spend with it, the more it seems to shift, becoming less about landscape and more about the spaces we carry with us long after they’ve disappeared.
We were excited to see 'Construction', the sister piece to 'Passage' recently sell, which makes this magnificent piece the last of Cécile’s large-scale works still available.
If it’s been calling to you, perhaps this is the moment to come and see it in person.
Anya is at the gallery this weekend.
