Saturday Spotlight: Annabel Faraday

For Annabel Faraday, decay does not diminish the character of an object or a place. Instead it reveals something.

Living on the Sussex coast, Annabel works among a landscape where seaside amenities sit alongside abandoned industrial sites - structures that are continually reshaped by salt, wind and sea. It's this tension between deterioration and renewal that drives her ceramic sculpture.

Hand-built in black and brown stoneware, her pieces are glazed or treated with rust after firing. The result is work that carries the quiet poetry of overlooked places - textures and surfaces that suggest age, vulnerability and endurance all at once.

"I am interested in the way decay can reveal rather than diminish the character of an object or place." @annabelfaraday
