Bronx students at DreamYard Preparatory walked out of school yesterday, in memory of their classmate Javits Frimpong (15), who his father and friends say was getting bullied at school. Many students in attendance knew Javits, and say bullying and gun violence has gotten out of control at the school. During the demonstration, students chanted Javits name, and marched a few blocks away from where he was shot and killed. 🎥 tt/ anidolfug

Rachel Apa, 24, of Lewisberry, Pennsylvania, tragically passed away after collapsing near mile 24 of the New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

What makes this heartbreaking story even more devastating is the reason Rachel chose to run. She dedicated her first marathon to her beloved grandfather, who passed away from Parkinson’s disease in 2022.

Rachel had spent months training for the 26.2-mile challenge and raising money for the Parkinson’s Foundation through its Parkinson’s Champions team. She wanted to honor her grandfather’s memory while helping others affected by the disease.

A former Division I field hockey player at Bucknell University, Rachel was a lifelong athlete. After she collapsed in Central Park, bystanders and race medical personnel rushed to help, performing lifesaving efforts before she was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she later died.

According to her family’s account, doctors attributed her death to rhabdomyolysis, a serious condition involving muscle breakdown.

Her passing is a devastating reminder that behind every marathon bib is a person, a family, a dream, and a reason for running. Rachel may not have crossed the finish line, but the love and purpose behind every mile she ran in her grandfather’s honor will never be forgotten.

Our deepest condolences go out to Rachel’s family, friends, and everyone whose life she touched. May she rest in peace. 🕊️💔
