I saved the best troll comment till the end. Last week’s version created a division, and most of the argument was about gravity. Fair, because I never explained the mechanism. Here’s part 2:

Your chain wears between the pin and the inner plate, and between the roller and the bushing. Nowhere else. When the chain twists laterally coming off the cassette, it opens and closes those surfaces like a pump, and that pumping action draws lubricant in. Silca have it under a microscope going upwards, against gravity.
So: big ring, one sprocket down from the largest. One drop per link, just before the cassette, backpedalling slowly. Worth about a tenth of a gram. Marginal, which is the point.

Tell me your number. 1, 2 or 3. (Or 4, if it’s the hair.)
Method credit @silca_velo and Josh Poertner, whose testing this is. Super Secret 2.0 is what I top up with between immersive waxes.

3 is the way in dry places. I’m 10k miles in on my current chain with wax lube top ups every 200 miles

Thanks for the tip, I will try it because it makes sense to me and my ego is not big enough to stop me from thinking I know better. People like you make me a better mechanic, too bad there’s so much hate on the internet. Love the haircut also!

Pomade has good essential oils. Ever consider it for chains?

Whatever. It doesn't make so much a different that it impacts the lifespan of the chain. It just doesn't.
