I visited Bhodi Bhojanalayam yesterday with the expectation of having authentic Telugu, village-style, homely food—as the restaurant name and presentation strongly suggest. Unfortunately, the experience was completely different from what we expected. The ambience and food were more modern and fancy, while we were expecting a traditional Telugu bhojanam. Sadly, there was hardly anything that represented the kind of food we came for. We expected dishes like mudda pappu, pachipulusu, pappucharu, traditional sambar, rasam, ulavacharu, etc. Instead, we were served three different varieties of fancy/flavoured rice. We even had to explain or ask for basic items. When we asked for sambar, they served sambar rice. When we asked for curd, they served curd rice. It felt like they assumed we didn’t know how to mix sambar with rice or curd with rice ourselves! 😄 The same was the case with sweets. We were expecting something traditionally Telugu like palatalikalu, payasam, or another native sweet, but were served gulab jamun. Another disappointing part was that we had to keep checking the Thali menu and asking for individual items rather than being served a proper traditional Telugu thali as we expected. As for the taste, it was just okay—not bad, but definitely nothing special considering the price. And the price is ₹1,199 for one vegetarian thali per person, which, in my opinion, is far too expensive for what was served. If the restaurant wants to offer modern/fusion food, that’s perfectly fine—but then the name and positioning should reflect that. If you’re presenting yourself as an authentic village-style Telugu bhojanalayam, the food should actually represent that tradition. Overall: A big NO from me. ❌ For ₹1,199, we expected an authentic Telugu food experience and unfortunately did not get it.
