People wear costumes on Halloween because of ancient traditions associated with spirits and the supernatural. The custom is often traced to the Celtic festival of Samhain, when people believed the boundary between the living and the dead became thinner. Some wore disguises or masks, possibly to protect themselves from wandering spirits. Over time, these traditions blended with European customs involving costumes, performances, and celebrations. Halloween costumes became especially popular in America during the 20th century, evolving from frightening disguises into outfits inspired by superheroes, celebrities, movies, and cartoons. Interestingly, Halloween is now one of the few occasions when adults can dress as completely fictional characters without attracting strange looks. Like this content? UTSA student, Isa Casahuga, went viral earlier this week for mocking the passing of Charlie Kirk. Since then, she has been publicly condemned by her K-12 Catholic school, the University of Texas system, and the Deputy Secretary of state. Listed below you can find the comments made by each group. Saint Agnes Academy, "St. Agnes Academy is aware of a video involving a former student. The statements made do not reflect our values or teachings. As a Catholic Dominican community, we reject violence, threats of violence, and language that celebrates the loss of human life. We remain committed to dignity, compassion, and respect." University of Texas System, "From Board of Regents Chairman Kevin Eltife and Chancellor John Zerwas: “We have been apprised of the incident at UT San Antonio. Let us be clear — we will not tolerate the incitement of violence or the threat of incitement of violence by any member of our UT community. UT San Antonio will handle this incident consistent with the law.” Deputy Secretary of State "Under the leadership of @POTUS @realDonaldTrump, @SecRubio and I have long emphasized that foreigners who participate in, advocate, or celebrate political violence aren’t welcome visitors in our country, and that we’re ready, willing, and able to revoke visas as we become aware of such cases. We take this issue, which prior Administrations failed to address, with the utmost gravity. Many cases that have been brought to our attention on social media, however, do not in fact involve foreigners present in our country on visas, but instead US citizens. Under those circumstances, obviously, no visa action is implicated. So just make sure to take with a grain of salt what you read online. As always, we encourage everyone to report suspected visa fraud or abuse at travel.state.gov/en/report-visa… and we’ll look into it.🫡🇺🇸" What do you make of the incident? Should the student face consequences for her actions? #UTSA #RoadRunners #SanAntonio

WHY DO I PHOTOGRAPH ? I photograph not just to capture moments, preserve memories or collect beautiful frames. "I photograph to understand the world I inhabit and my relationship with it." I love to return to familiar places because I believe that observation deepens with time. The simple looking things begin to reveal extraordinary possibilities when we learn to look beyond appearances... Through people, landscapes, birds, monuments, forgotten places and fleeting moments, I try to encounter the deeper connections between humanity, nature, time and me. So, unknowingly, "I am also documenting my own journey of existence." I do not always seek to possess a moment through my camera. Sometimes I simply want to witness it, understand it and leave it untouched. For me, photography is not just about making photographs. It is a lifelong process of discovering the world, questioning existence and gradually discovering oneself. #art #photography #unique #journey #discovery @natgeoyourshot @natgeo
