. Doom mother is Cynthia was a Romani woman in Latveria who practiced the mystic arts. Desperate to protect her oppressed people from the tyrannical local Baron, she turned to dark magic and made a deal with the demon lord Mephisto.
Tragic Fall: The demon's power turned out to be a curse. When her village was attacked, Cynthia unleashed the dark energy, accidentally killing innocent village children. Horrified by what she had done, she renounced the magic, but a dying soldier stabbed her.
Mephisto's Prisoner: Because of the demonic contract, Mephisto claimed Cynthia's soul upon her death and dragged her to Hell, where she was tormented for decades.
Victor's Life Mission: Losing his mother—and learning her soul was suffering in Hell—is the exact reason Victor obsessively mastered both science and sorcery. Every year on Midsummer's Eve, Doom summoned and fought Mephisto to win her soul back until he finally freed her with Doctor Strange's help in Doctor Strange & Doctor Doom: Triumph and Torment.
