This feels like it was go long ago now, eons back when rain was still happening, the grass was green and wild fires werent a constant worry. @gemma_smale and I did a mixed gas and wood firing at her studio up in Harlow, its right next to the canal and super beautiful.

It was my first time firing this kiln with Gemma and it was fun to try some things out, a new stacking formation, shells full of salt and slabs washed with copper. It was a good few hours until we realised the new way we'd stacked the kiln wasnt working in our favour, but as with every wood firing i learnt a lot, plus hanging out with Gemma and George away from the city was a blast.

Wood firing can seem simple but theres many decisions made during the stacking and firing of a kiln, sometimes im amazed to get even 1 beautiful piece from a kiln.

ill be back up in Harlow this week to plan and collect materials for a Nerikomi day course, and 2 day forraged clay weekend im teaching at @parndonmillpottery in September . Im particularly excited about the weekend course where we will forrage, process and handbuild with local clay!
