A summer without her wouldn’t be a summer at all. My four legged root system. She chased a deer to its death the other day, which, turns out, is an awful way to start the morning. I hadn’t even had coffee yet. And after romping in the rain the next day, she curled up against my leg in what we call the croissant position, smelling like damp animal, and sighed the sigh that all dog parents live for. Each one is a reminder that something small is going right.
