What I see constantly as a licensed financial consultant

Someone sits down across from me convinced she’s behind. Same income as the last person who sat in that chair convinced she was doing fine.

The difference is never the salary. It’s that one knows her numbers and the other is guessing — and when you’re guessing, you borrow someone else’s to measure against.

Except the algorithm doesn’t show you a fair sample. It shows you whatever performs. The Pilates membership, the trip, the bag. Those posts do numbers, so you see more of them — and eventually a feed engineered for engagement starts feeling like an accurate picture of how everyone else is doing.

It isn’t. It never was.

The feed shows you the bag. It doesn’t show you the twelve payments left on it.

What changes when you sit down with someone: four numbers. What’s coming in, what’s committed, what’s protected, what’s actually free. Once you can see your own position, hers stops being the measurement.

Without that, the feed stays the scoreboard. Her column looks full. Yours stays a question mark. A year goes by and you still can’t tell if you’re behind — because you never had a number to compare to.

A better you is the only score that counts.
