Surprisingly one of the best days of my life 🙌
SWIM — 41:22
If you know me, you know I HATE cold water. Found out the morning of the race that I couldn’t wear a wetsuit cause the water temp was too high, and I had never done an open water swim without one before 😅 So we got in and figured it out.
About 500 yards in I threw up after trying something different with my nutrition that morning. Safe to say that did NOT go according to plan 😂 I also quickly learned that swimming with hundreds of people around you is a whole different experience than swimming by yourself at the lake lol. Between that and the nutrition mistake, I struggled pretty much the entire swim. Definitely not the time I was hoping for, but we got through it and learned a lot for the next one.
BIKE — 2:30:01
Honestly, the best bike ride of my life. Going into it, I knew I wasn’t going to give 100% on the bike because I wanted to save my knees for the run, but once I got rolling everything just clicked. Battled with some low number dudes all day and the body, bike, and nutrition all felt perfect. Easily my favorite part of the race.
My transitions were definitely nothing to brag about thanks to my organizational skills🙃 There’s some easy time to clean up there for the next one.
RUN — 1:54:49
The run was always going to be the mystery. I wasn’t able to put in nearly as many running miles as I wanted leading up to the race because of my knees.
It went pretty much exactly how I expected. Felt good through about mile 8 or 9, then my knees had other plans. From there it became a battle to keep moving and get myself to that finish line.
Crossing that line after 70.3 miles and seeing 5:16:02 on the clock made every part of the day worth it.
Couldn’t be happier with my first 70.3. The event, the people, the experience, all of it. A lot went right, plenty went wrong, and I learned a TON. Most importantly, I know there’s a lot more time left out on that course.
First one down. Let’s work. 😤
