⚠️ pedantic lil bitch alert ⚠️ Out of all the Harry Potter tourism in Edinburgh, this is the part I hate the most. Greyfriars is overrun with people these days looking for the grave of a man who has absolutely nothing to do with She Who Must Not Be Named, and these signs play a part. Here's why I am very confident she did not get inspo from this grave: 1. It's not Tom Riddle, it's Thomas Riddell. Riddell is a Scottish surname (correctly pronounced with the emphasis Rid-DELL) that's pretty common, as is the name Thomas. There's almost certainly at least one more in another Edinburgh graveyard and likely dozens all over the country. 2. More importantly, JK herself is on record saying 1. She didn't see the grave, and 2. She used the name Tom Marvolo Riddle because she needed an anagram for 'I am Lord Voldemort' in book 2. Straight from the transphobic, independence hating horses mouth. Dark tourism will always exist and likely always be a part of Edinburghs genetic makeup, but I find it deeply uncomfortable to see so many tourists trampling over the graves of real people to stare at the headstone of a man who didn't consent to play a part in this. I hope if you HAVE gone to Greyfriars to look for Tom Riddles grave, you came away with a deeper appreciation for the REAL history of the Kirkyard. The story of the covenantors, the history of the medical school, the graves of key Edinburgh figures and the rich political and cultural landscape which makes up this part of my city

Two Proud Boys conducted overwatch from a parking garage. Another flew a drone overhead. Below, at the Central Library here in North Carolina, around 50 Proud Boys from chapters around the country had gathered to oppose the Democratic Socialists of America, who were meeting inside. The Proud Boys had scouted the location, putting together a five-paragraph field order that included the entrances and exits, communication channels, and medical plans. They had leaked news that they would be attending so supporters of the DSA would show up. Some, inspired by claims — which seem to be completely unfounded — that wealthy leftists had been funding a left-wing “street army” to fight for socialism, wanted to see if the Proud Boys’ presence would bring them to town. Dressed in their signature black and yellow twin-tipped Fred Perry polo shirts, some with masks pulled up to cover their faces, the men traded insults and curses, alongside some conversation, with counterprotesters on the sun-dappled sidewalk. The police arrived and stayed to observe but made no arrests. Five of the Proud Boys eventually entered the building, making their way to the meeting in the library’s auditorium. Us despite all of these rumors circulating right now lol. We are cool and chill with each other. Just because it's not the actual norm that you see when two people are broken up. We're not sure why you guys keep trying to twist and divide it into something it's not 😅
