Happy birthday to the woman who had to become strong before she was ever given the chance to simply be a girl.
Today, I don’t just want to celebrate your birthday. I want to celebrate you.
I think about everything you have had to carry as the first child and the first daughter. The expectations. The responsibilities. The sacrifices. The moments you probably had to put your own needs aside because someone else needed you. The times you had to be strong even when you were tired. The times you gave when you had almost nothing left to give.
And somehow, through all of it, you still found a way to show up for me.
You have sacrificed so much for me—sometimes even down to your very last. There are things you have done for me that I may never be able to repay you for, and there are sacrifices you made that I probably didn’t even understand at the time.

But today, I want you to know that I see you.
I see the sister who gave when she could have kept for herself.
I see the woman who carried responsibilities that were never always easy.
I see the person who sometimes had to put her own dreams, comfort and needs on the back burner just to make sure the people she loved were okay.

And I want you to know that none of it has gone unnoticed.
You have been a safe place for me in so many ways. You have protected me, supported me, encouraged me, corrected me, and loved me even when loving me probably required more patience than you had.

If I have ever made you feel like your sacrifices were expected of you, I’m sorry. They were never something you owed me. They were gifts of love, and I will never take them for granted.

I pray God rewards every sacrifice you made in silence. Every tear you wiped privately. Every time you chose someone else when you could have chosen yourself. Every time you gave from your little. Every prayer you prayed for this family.

I am so proud of the woman you are becoming.
