The greatest deception is not always a life falling apart; sometimes it is a life going so “well” that a person never realises how desperately they need God.

Money can increase. Careers can flourish. Degrees can be earned. Houses can be bought. Cars can be driven. Marriages can happen. Children can come. Passports can fill with stamps. A person can possess everything society calls success and still be spiritually bankrupt.

This is why we must never confuse prosperity with God’s approval, or earthly comfort with eternal security.

Asaph wrestled with this very question when he saw the prosperity of the wicked. He almost stumbled because their lives appeared easier and more prosperous, until he entered the presence of God and understood their end (Psalm 73:2–3, 16–17).

The Bible also asks:

“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” —> Mark 8:36

That question puts everything into perspective.

There is nothing wrong with wealth, achievement, marriage, children, education, beautiful homes or enjoying the good things God provides. The danger is possessing His gifts while rejecting the Giver; enjoying the world He created while having no relationship with the One who created you.

The enemy does not need to make everyone miserable. If comfort, success and pleasure can keep a person satisfied in sin, distracted from Christ and unconcerned about eternity, the deception has already achieved its purpose.

And for those who belong to Christ, following Jesus does not mean that God desires a life of perpetual lack. Scripture says, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:33). The order matters: Christ first. Everything else finds its rightful place after Him.

A person who has everything but Christ ultimately has nothing, while the person who truly has Christ possesses a treasure this world can never give and can never take away.

Choose Christ. Choose eternity. ✝️
