Social platforms are built on hipster logic. Today: hipsterism as our language of consumption - the effects of niche becoming mainstream, and how resonant ideas from subcultures past equip us to confront contemporary challenges. — I’m Eugene Healey, a strategist and educator exploring the intersection of advertising, culture, and desire. It’s been a wild few weeks. I just want to express my gratitude for everything to everyone. From getting to open up the Tivoli Theatre in Chattanooga to getting the entertainer of the year award at @intlbluegrass and seeing all my friends there.. jamming till 4am .. to the amazing shows in Huntsville at the beautiful @theorionamphitheater to the madness of our Halloween shows in Baltimore.. trick or treating in all the different rooms backstage at @cfgbankarena with my son. Working so hard on the He-man theme and seeing it all come together.. I was nervous leading up to it. I had to sit down and catch my breath shortly before we walked on stage. I was having bad anxiety and we had been playing for 8 hours a day leading up to it trying to cram all these arrangements in our brains. I had no idea if we were gonna pull it off but somehow we always do. Even the couple original tunes I wrote for the theme went over great!! It’s just been an absolute whirlwind and I am so grateful to be able to do make this music with this incredible band and amazing team who all work their hind-ends off to make it happen. The little kid in this picture would not believe it. Thank you all for blowing his little mind.

This legendary animated series is famous for pushing the boundaries of children’s television, sneaking in notoriously adult double entendres right under the noses of network censors. In this iconic scene from the episode “Hercule Yakko,” Dot takes a literal approach to a detective trope when told to “dust for prints,” returning with the actual pop icon Prince. Interestingly, the writers deliberately slipped the “fingerprints” vs. “finger Prince” pun past the studio executives, creating a joke that completely bypassed kids but became an absolute viral legend for adults decades later. Despite the constant battles with standards and practices, the show won widespread acclaim, defining the golden age of 90s smart-satire cartoons.
