The most common mistake I see on office projects is shopping for the cheapest number instead of the clearest process. It looks smart on paper. It rarely is.

Separate best-in-class vendors often quote cheaper up front, because each one is only pricing their own lane. The architect prices the space. The signage company prices the signs. The fabricator prices their piece. Add it up and it looks like a deal.

But the expensive stuff hides in the gaps between those lanes. The overruns come from unclear scope, poor site surveys, late decisions, and designs that were never thought through for how they'd actually be built and installed. Then come the change orders, the rework, the delays, the decision fatigue, and a final result that still doesn't match the brand.

So you save a little at signing and pay for it three times over the next six months. The wrong partner almost always looks cheaper on day one.

Shop the clearest process, not the lowest price. The team that can explain exactly how your project gets built is the one protecting your budget.

So what's the most expensive "cheap" decision you've ever made?

Comment BLIND SPOTS and I'll send you the questions that reveal a vendor's real process before you sign.
