π Have you ever stumbled across a place that looks like it stepped straight out of a storybook?
ποΈ Monschau is a tiny town tucked deep in a green valley in western Germany, close to the Belgian border. The houses don't sit on flat, tidy streets. They climb up the steep hillsides and lean into each other, because long ago a river cut a narrow gorge through the rock and left barely any room to build.
π A little river slips right through the middle of it all, curling under small stone bridges and past rows of crooked timber houses with dark wooden beams. Its water once powered the mills that kept the whole town running.
π° High on a rocky hill above the rooftops sits an old stone castle, keeping watch for roughly 800 years. It's peaceful now, though on summer nights its courtyard comes alive with open-air concerts.
𧡠Centuries ago Monschau grew wealthy weaving fine cloth, and rich merchants built grand houses that still stand today. Because big factories and railways never arrived, the town barely changed, earning it the nickname "Pearl of the Eifel", a little pocket of the past that looks almost frozen in time.
