A 40-year-old man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after being convicted of r*ping an 86-year-old woman in Mukurwe-ini Sub-County, Nyeri County.

Jairus Githendu Irenyo was convicted of r*pe under Section 3(1)(a) and (b), as read with Section 3(3) of the Sexual Offences Act No. 3 of 2006, following a successful prosecution by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

The incident occurred on September 1, 2025, at Gitura Village in Kiharo Location. The court heard that Irenyo unlawfully entered the elderly woman’s home after damaging a wall beside her door before restraining and s*xually ass*ulting her using force and threats.

After the incident, the survivor reported the matter to the area chief, who referred her to the police for further action. She also told the chief that the accused had assaulted her on previous occasions but she had not reported them because of shame.

Dahlah. 🙂

Before reacting to the Agnipath revision, understand the numbers.

Earlier: out of 100 Agniveers, 25 entered regular service after four years and 75 exited with Seva Nidhi.

Now, the first 25 still enter on merit. The remaining 75 get an additional two-year engagement.

Simple illustration:

100 Agniveers
→ 25 enter regular service after Year 4
→ 10 choose Seva Nidhi
→ 65 continue for two more years
→ If 60 meet the criteria at Year 6, then 25 + 60 = 85 can move into regular service.

It is not an automatic 85% guarantee. Merit, performance, medical fitness and prescribed standards will still apply.

The key change: Agniveers now get a second performance-based pathway—not simply an exit after four years.

Jai Hind. Jai Bharat.

Awok awok… tralala trilili sapa tuchhhh 🤭
