12 days agoFactory farming is incredibly harmful to livestock animals AND workers AND the environment. In factory farms, animals are kept in incredibly compact spaces (even “cage free” animals are tightly packed together). Pigs are subject to gestation pens/farrowing crates, as well as tail cutting and teeth pulling with no anesthesia so that the meat isn’t “infected” if they bite each other from stress. Pigs have an intelligence similar to dogs. This sort of treatment towards dogs would not be tolerated. Cows are also kept in confinement and have their bodies exhausted from forced pregnancies and calves are separated immediately at birth. Male chicks are shredded. Egg laying hens are kept in cages with no room to even stretch their wings for their entire lifespan or kept tightly packed. Broiler chickens are given growth supplements that cause their bodies to expand beyond what their legs can uphold and their organs can and often burst from the inside due to the rapid growth. If you can’t reduce your meat or dairy intake, please try to pursue local farms with more ethical practices, farmer’s markets, or buying from hunters. If you can’t do that either, please just try to spread awareness about factory farming practices and oppose bills attempting to implement more ethical loopholes for the sake of profit (ex: the “Save Our Bacon” Act)
