When I got asked to be apart of the festival in Val David,
I thought two things,
1. I need to re- dye my hair
2. I don’t have an act
But nonetheless when I saw the rig and the spot over the water, I caved. And I’m so glad I did.
There was one song I wanted to make an act to. It had these wind chimes in the beginning. I was inspired by the feeling of being blown away. When the silks would blow in the wind I would feel like.. I WAS the wind chimes. But not only that, when the wind would blow the silks, I would lose control. For a while it was often upsetting and would wreck the number. It was only recently I learned this.
“The only way to find myself back in control of the act.. was by letting go.”
To regain control, I had to let go of what I couldn’t control.
The concept was strange and uncomfortable
and with that idea in mind,
I knew I was mostly going to improvise this act. I picked the words joy and freedom to feel inspired by. I wrote down a few skills, and let go of everything else. Everything I couldn’t control. I really felt it while I was up there, the freedom. I felt like I had done one of my best performances to date.
There is power in letting go of what you can’t control, and I’m getting better at it everyday. But I still need to re- touch my roots 🥸😁
