As you all know, Tim Curry has passed away. No celebrity death has ever hit me as hard as this one.

I don’t like to talk about my past in theatre much, but over the course of my school theatre career, I had the pleasure of playing two different characters brought to life by Curry. Those characters being Rooster Hannigan in Annie Jr. in 4th Grade and Wadsworth in Milford High School’s production of Clue. The latter role would get me nominated for a Cappie Award. To say that Curry’s acting and overall demeanor has had an influence on me would be an understatement.

So much of how I conducted myself in theatre was influenced by him and even more so in my lifelong interest in voice acting. I still find myself quoting his Nigel Thornberry lines or his dramatic monologue from Command & Conquer 3 whenever I need a little cheer-up.

Even though I consider myself retired from acting, I still find myself channeling Curry’s bold presence in my music and any other performances I do. Tim Curry is just the kind of personality that sticks with you, the voice in the back of your head that goes “You’re doing a SMASHING job!”

Rest in peace, and thank you for everything.
