In the 2026 R-rated animated adaptation Batman: Knightfall – Part 1: Knightfall, the very first fight takes place in the opening 10 minutes and features Batman fighting Jean-Paul Valley (Azrael).
This opening sequence serves as a massive teaser for the future of the trilogy, showcasing Bruce Wayne squaring off against the unstable ally who is destined to become his eventual replacement later in the storyline.
Why This Fight Matters
The Setup: The sequence serves as an introduction to Jean-Paul Valley before the narrative shifts heavily toward Bane's orchestrated Arkham Asylum breakout.
The Foreshadowing: It gives the audience a preview of Azrael's brutal fighting style. This heavily contrasts with Bruce Wayne's code, setting up Part 2: Knightquest, where Valley assumes the Batman mantle.
AzBat (short for Azrael-Batman) is the fan-favorite nickname for Jean-Paul Valley during his time filling in as the Dark Knight

Its okay this is like 99% of the outcomes with Bane after Knightfall, he hasn't been a worthy opponent since

Why can’t DC transfer this awesomeness to the big screen!! Maybe they should do feature animated films for the big screen

Replacement is a strong word. Azrael puts on the cape and cowl without Batmans permission then Bruce takes it back from him later
