“This term we read one great poem, and two of the historical books of Moses, which contain four archaic fragments of Hebrew verse and two magnificent odes—viz.,
(a) Lamech’s Sword-song (Gen. 4:23, 24).
(b) Noah’s Prophecy concerning his sons, an epitome of universal history (Gen. 9:25-27) [forgot to sign reference].
(c) Jehovah’s Prophecy concerning Rebekah’s sons, an epitome of Israel’s history (Gen. 25:23).
(d) Isaac’s Prophecy concerning his sons, an amplification of (c) (Gen. 27:27-29, 39, 40).
(e) Jacob’s Benediction, giving the destinies of the Twelve Tribes (Gen. 49).
(f) Moses’ Song of Victory, in three stanzas, the grandest national hymn ever sung to the glory of Jehovah and to liberty, and the first specimen of responsive choral music (Exod. 15:1-18).”
