Would your kids spend the night at the zoo? 🦒🌙
We tried this overnight experience at Knies Kinderzoo Rapperswil — and it’s much more than simply sleeping there.
🌙 WHAT
Once the zoo closes, two brilliant animators lead kids and parents through an immersive story with one mission: save the whale.
You explore the zoo after hours, complete quests, collect magic crystals and become part of the story. Dinner, the overnight stay and breakfast the next morning are all part of the experience.
📍 WHERE
Knies Kinderzoo, Rapperswil — around 5 minutes’ walk from Rapperswil station.
📅 WHEN
9, 10, 13 & 14 October 2026 — adults + children from approx. 5–12 years
12 October 2026 — children 8+ without parents
The experience starts at 17:00 and runs until the following morning.
☀️ THE MORNING
This was another highlight for us: after breakfast, you get to explore the zoo before the usual guests arrive. Your ticket remains valid afterwards too, so you can stay in the zoo for the day.
And you can even do pony rides once they start!
⚠️ THINGS TO KNOW
The story is in German, so kids need enough German to follow and participate.
Everyone sleeps together in one indoor space, so don’t expect a private room. You need to bring your own sleeping bag and mattress/mat (maximum 90 cm wide). There are toilets and sinks, but no showers. It’s part of the adventure!
Our daughter talked about the adventure for days afterwards — the immersive story really made this one for us.
