This is St Enoch — the mother of St Mungo, Glasgow’s patron saint — painted by @smugone on the gable end of the Bell o’ the Brae tenements near High Street and George Street.
The mural was inspired by Rebecca Sharp’s poetry play Maiden Mother Mage and actually replaces an earlier Smug mural of a younger St Enoch that was sadly lost when the building had repairs.
I love that they brought her back, rather than just leaving the wall blank. And this version is absolutely stunning. There’s something about finding these huge pieces of Glasgow’s history tucked into the city streets that never gets old.
