Emily and Richard are the villains. Emily is just featured more. She always thinks she knows what’s best and she’s rarely willing to see things from others pov. She threw a birthday party for Rory without asking her and invited kids she didn’t like. She had a party with a bunch of guys so that Rory would break up with Dean. She invited Chris to her vowel renewal so that Luke and Lorelei would break up AFTER she realized how happy Lorelei was with Luke to the point she was genuinely considering marriage. When Logan was coming over and Lorelei wanted to come to dinner she made it seem like Lorelei was the problem and Emily was being generous letting her come meet her daughter’s boyfriend before her parents did even though the reason for them not speaking at the time was something Emily did. People demonize Lorelei but tell me one time she was wrong about her parents motives when they did stuff that turned out to be shady? Emily did have a great story in the revival and I love that Lorelei offers Friday Night Dinners during the series finale with no strings attached. I also understand that Emily ultimately wanted what was best for Lorelei and Rory but just because I have sympathy for her wanting a relationship with her daughter doesn’t suddenly mean she wasn’t a villain for a majority of the show.

I was the same age as Lorelei when I first watched it. Then I started again recently and realised i was now around the same age as Emily and understanding her much more 😂🫣

It was the opposite for me. I watched it while it aired (I was 16) and I’ve rewatched it as I grew older and I realized that Emily was such a toxic person. Yes, Lorelai and Rory had many flaws, but Emily was downright cruel

It is crazy how different the show feels on a rewatch especially all these years later. Emily's actress is so good at showing the pain that she hides so deeply losing Lorelei. I can talk about it for hours.
