Congratulations Speaker @repjeffries

America shifts toward Democrats as voters redraw the electoral map in 2026.

According to preliminary estimates from The New York Times, Democratic House candidates received 56% support among voters nationwide, compared with 43% for Republicans — a 13-point advantage and a 15-point Democratic shift in the electoral margin compared with 2024.

The most significant changes came from younger voters and racial and ethnic groups that had moved toward Republicans in 2024.

Voters aged 18–29 favored Democrats by 70% to 28%, representing a 32-point shift in the Democratic direction compared with 2024. Hispanic voters supported Democrats by 69% to 30%, with their partisan margin shifting 28 points toward the party.

Asian voters also favored Democrats, 70% to 30%.
Men registered a notable reversal. After favoring Donald Trump in 2024, male voters supported Democratic House candidates by 51% to 48% in 2026. Women maintained their Democratic preference, voting 61% to 38%.

Some of the country’s longstanding political divisions nevertheless remained intact. Black voters continued to provide overwhelming support for Democrats, at 91%, while nonwhite women backed the party by 80% to 19%.

Republicans retained their advantage among white voters overall, winning 51% against 48% for Democrats. White men favored Republicans by 56% to 43%, while white voters aged 45–64 and those over 65 also maintained Republican majorities, at 57% and 54%, respectively.

The defining pattern of the 2026 midterms was a broader shift across the electorate. Younger voters, Hispanic voters and men contributed to the Democratic advance, while established Republican-leaning groups narrowed their margins without necessarily changing their preferred party.

The results reflect a substantial change in the national electoral landscape just two years after the 2024 presidential election.

Note: Figures are preliminary estimates.

“Tyrannosaur” changed Olivia Colman’s life.

In several interviews, the Oscar-winning actress for The Favourite has said that playing Hannah, a woman experiencing domestic violence, not only launched her into the world of cinema but also led her to become a patron of Tender, a British charity that uses the arts and theatre to educate young people about healthy relationships and abuse prevention.

Watching Paddy Considine’s film (or perhaps even just this scene from the Reel), it’s easy to understand its impact. With the rawness and honesty so characteristic of independent cinema, Tyrannosaur begins as the story of a man (Peter Mullan) seeking redemption, but evolves into the account of two people tormented by violence.

In Joseph’s (Peter Mullan) case, the violence lies within him: a widowed alcoholic consumed by rage. In Hannah’s case, it is inside her own home: despite being a kind-hearted woman, her days are marked by an abusive relationship.

To prepare for the role, Colman consulted Refuge, a charity dedicated to combating domestic violence, to ensure that her portrayal of trauma and abuse would be authentic. The actress said she felt enormous pressure to get it right, so that people who had survived similar situations wouldn’t feel that her performance was false or artificial.

An extraordinary actress by nature, Olivia got it absolutely right: her performance in Tyrannosaur proves to be as delicate as it is devastating.
