I thought that I would never go back to America - lived in Colorado for a year when I was 7 - but the chance to visit a dear friend in Santa Fe New Mexico came up. I was expecting machine gun toting customs officers trawling through my devices before deporting me and poverty everywhere. Instead I found the opposite. As soon as I boarded Delta Airlines it was apparent- they had the most modern planes and terminals. The cabin crew shocked me by how nice and sweet they were. Like your best friends Mom when you come over for a play date and she offers you cookies. Warm and gentle and kind. Transit stop LA. Gigantic city. Those storm drains from Terminator 2! The border guards were so super friendly to us Aussies - we are like kids to them - coming in to spend our money - but hey - they really made u feel welcome. And the hyper efficient professional service in the states blew me away.
