Election Day is November 3, but millions of votes have already been cast, and clear trends are starting to appear. It's possible that as many as two-thirds of all votes in the midterm elections will come in the mail or will be cast during early voting, and data on who is choosing to get a head start on voting provides valuable insights into the critical races that will determine control of the House and Senate this fall. In several key states, Democrats make up a larger share of early voters than they did at this point two years ago. That aligns with the Democratic enthusiasm edge that has also been evident in primary turnout, special elections and polling data. But there's plenty of time for Republicans, who typically prefer to vote on Election Day, to reverse that trend. Total ballot counts in each state come from data compiled by CNN, the Associated Press, and the data firm Catalist. Explore the full tracker to learn more about early voting at the link in our bio.
