A chief refused a widow land to bury her husband. So this women’s movement brought the coffin to his office 👇
Meet
@ruralwomensassembly (RWA), a 2026 Right Livelihood Laureate, and a movement of over 178,000 rural women farmers across 11 Southern African countries.
Corporations are tightening their grip on seed systems, land grabs are rising, and the climate crisis keeps getting worse. RWA’s answer? Rural women, organising themselves, protecting their land, their seeds and each other.
They’ve built 24 seed multiplication sites, documented hundreds of Indigenous seed varieties, and helped pass life-changing laws — including Eswatini’s Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Bill after it was stalled for 20 years.
This is what real, grassroots power looks like.
💬 “We are the Guardians of Land, Life, Seed and Love.”
@rightlivelihood is honouring RWA “for organising rural women across Southern Africa into a united force defending land, seed and bodily autonomy against corporate and patriarchal dispossession.”
