I will always be enduringly grateful to @oscarhsolomon not only for so many lovely evenings at @apollosydney and @chochosansydney over the years, but for the priceless recommendation of @carnationcanteen. The idea that I could have been in Melbourne and not eaten there is quite giving me a fit of the vapours! But thanks to him, I went and was – and remain – smitten. It’s teeny-tiny, and from its small kitchen comes the most beautiful food: simple in the sense that it’s not frilly or fussy, but awe-inspiring in its uncluttered exquisiteness. Chef Audrey @u_o_v_o and her small team are pitch-perfect, and that goes for front of house, too. Kye Connors (this year’s winner of The Age Young Service Talent Award, and I can see why) made the evening yet more upliftingly memorable. And now I’ve hardly left room to tell you about what I ate! So moving swiftly on, I inhaled a frosty bone-dry vodka martini with beautiful oysters before feasting on smoky and tender octopus Gildas (pic 2), vibrant tongues of young zucchini/courgettes plus silky blossom with oregano, lemon, pinenuts and cloud-soft buffalo ricotta and tender cold roast beef with artichokes, salty shards of parmesan and parsley (pic 3). This was followed by two gorgeous charcoal-grilled dishes: sardines in a rapturous Bloody Mary dressing (pic 4) and just breathtaking, confidently unadorned – just lemon and excellent olive oil – baby snapper, with a zesty salad of tender leaves, asparagus and Dutch Cream potatoes (pic 5). And somehow I found room for the chicken, intense in flavour, so tender to the bite, in a dreamy, drinkable n’duja sauce with fava bean and, alongside, a bowl of yogurt-splodged bitter greens (pic 6). Yes, I ate a lot, but the freshness of the food and the warmth of the place ensured I left (if reluctantly: I could have stayed forever) light of heart and full of admiration and gratitude.

I never thought I would have to say goodbye to my beautysalon because of my health. 💔 For nine years, this was my baby. My life. My proud. I started from scratch, learning as I went. Through every high and low, I poured my heart and soul into building something I was so proud to call mine. For a long time, I thought I would come back. But right now, my skin cannot tolerate the work and the products. As much as I love it, I cannot keep asking my body to do something it isn’t able to do. And that really hurts more than I can explain. Watching the furniture leave, I remember everything that happened around it. The conversations. The laughter. The familiar faces. All those ordinary working days that became such a big part of my life. To every client who trusted me, supported me, and shared a little of their life with me: thank you. You made this place so special. 🙏🏼 I’m selling my salon equipment and furniture, also to help pay for my treatments and my journey for my skin. Letting go of something I worked so hard to build, to support my recovery, brings up so many emotions. But alongside the sadness, there is gratitude. For everything I learned. For everyone I met. And for finding the courage to choose my health, even when my heart wants to hold on. The thing I loved most was always the connection. Helping someone feel beautiful. Sharing beautiful story’s and being trusted. Seeing my clients leave happier and more confident than they arrived. One thing’s for sure: TSW never took that part of me. I’m working on new ways to share it through supporting others with TSW, breathwork, energy work, and the retreats I dream of creating. ✨ Maybe one day, there will be room for a beautysalon again. Who knows right?! For now, I’m giving myself permission to leave this chapter with love even tho it hurts, to make room for the new! ❤️ These are days I’ll always remember. And sometimes, you have to loosen your grip on the life you’ve known to make place to discover what comes next. So, with love for everything this chapter gave me, and tears in my eyes, I’m letting go. Thank you, for nine years of memories. ❤️🥹 Love, Evianne
"The worm has turned." If Democrats regain control of Congress, Elon Musk could face a wave of investigations into his time leading DOGE, federal layoffs, government contracts and Starlink’s role in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Scott Galloway and Jessica Tarlov discuss, on Raging Moderates.
