I spent a lot of time blaming my anger for the way things worked out for me, but I’m learning that my anger was a valid response to the abuse I was trapped in. It’s what I did with that anger that helped keep me trapped.

The version of me with two loving parents and big happy family doesn’t exist. The version of me that was never raped doesn’t exist. The version of me that was never abused by my first love doesn’t exist. The version of me with a best friend who is still in my life regularly doesn’t exist. I have to accept that and learn to love the version of me that does. She has so much to offer.

I am learning I need to take that anger and turn into something productive. The resentment, shame, guilt, confusion, etc doesn’t have to eat me from the inside out. It doesn’t have to eat you, too. What happened to you wasn’t your fault, feeling trapped isn’t your fault either, the game is rigged against us. But while you are trapped you can still make art, write in journals, make a good meal, hopefully go for a walk and move your body. You can channel the inner turmoil into something beautiful just for you or maybe to share with people you love or maybe even the whole world. Your story is yours and I hope you get to write a beautiful ending, no matter how it started.
