📣 Civil society needs to speak up against the threat of the radical right, and respond loudly when our values and allies are attacked.
That was the core message of
@degregoriopaul's keynote at The Saltways Charity Film Festival last Friday.
Emma from Saltways said nice things about the talk:
"I loved how your talk set everyone up for the day – there was a boldness in the room and people kept quoting parts of your talk back to me... it was brilliant!"
Which made us VERY happy.
It was a brilliant day, brilliantly organised by some brilliant people.
We won't subject you to the full keynote in an IG caption, but here are a few snippets.
On the right's success in shifting public opinion:
"It's clear that the populist right is no longer hiding at the edges of society.
They're driving the news cycle and forcing mainstream parties onto their ground.
Well funded, disciplined and digitally ruthless, far right voices flood our social media feeds and make toxic ideas feel normal.
If it's a battle for attention, they're winning, and we need to respond with as much determination and focus as they do."
But there was hope too. We know what to do.
We need to reboot the playbook.
We need to resource the shift to a mobile, film, video and social first strategy if we want to stay relevant.
We need to make content for the internet the public actually uses.
We need to communicate simply.
We need to find the right spokespeople to deliver our messages.
We need to work with creators and influencers who speak fluent internet to reach new audiences.
We need to speed everything up, and make content that's relevant to the moment before the moment passes.
We're committed to helping drive the response to the threats we face.
We're happy talking, but much happier doing. If you want to take action, hit our DMs.
