☁︎ Queen in the studio | Freddie, Roger & Brian

❀༉ Sometimes the loveliest moments are the ones that were never meant to be performances. Just musicians in a room, working through ideas, disagreeing over a few words, and making each other laugh.

❀༉ For the anniversary of One Vision, released in the UK on November 4, 1985, here’s another little glimpse into Queen’s recording sessions. This time, Freddie, Roger and Brian are trying to make the lyrics fit the music, and the whole exchange is wonderful.

❀༉ Roger has an idea, but Freddie isn’t convinced. Roger insists the words will fit, while Freddie keeps telling him they won’t. Finally, Freddie asks him to sing it. Roger gives it a try, Freddie and Brian start laughing, and Freddie declares, “It’s a complete edit! It’s a complete edit!”

❀༉ I love seeing them like this. Four strong personalities, each with their own musical instincts, able to challenge each other and still have so much fun together. We know the finished song so well, but these little moments remind us of all the conversations, experiments and laughter behind it.

❀༉ And Freddie’s laugh! His expressions, his teasing, the joy on his face when something makes him laugh. I could watch this part again and again. It’s lovely seeing him simply enjoying himself with the people he’d spent so many years making music with.

❀༉ In 1986, One Vision would open Queen’s concerts on the Magic Tour. Here, we get to see a little of the work and playful chaos that came before those unforgettable performances.

❀༉ That laugh of Freddie’s is infectious. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of hearing it.
