How does weaving a pattern work?
How do you have so much patience?
How do you choose the colors of yarn?
Are you following a pattern or making it up as you go along?
What is the most popular color?
How did you learn to weave?
How much time does it take to grow one inch of fabric?

These are some of the questions I’ve gotten as I’ve shared my creative process over the past year. I’m curious, what questions do you have? I’d love to listen, learn and share.

I’m still weaving, sharing less online, but only to allow myself to slow down and take the pressure off. This big piece I’m working on is woven with gorgeous natural sheep’s wool in beautiful brown, from a local NC (or TN?) farmer; gifted to me by my wonderful mother in law @sarapattonpowell

How do I choose the colors? There’s a voice in my head telling me what’s next (if not already a commissioned piece) and I’ve been itching to make more in these warm, undyed wool colors that grow from the animal, just like that! I just think they’re so beautiful.

When I’ve gotten requests for custom pieces, most people ask for a dyed color from the rainbow. I get it, those are so beautiful too; and color can bring so much life into a space. I designed this pattern planning for each tapestry to be a 24”x24” square. Ok I’m usually good at math but I was way off, and this one looks like it’ll be more like 27”x60”. I can’t wait to see it off the loom.

What’s next? The voice is telling me red again. ❤️

That is wonderful to hear and I think makes perfect sense considering how time consuming weaving can be! It does really seem like it would provide an opportunity to “quiet the mind” 😌

love this photoset! And I have a question 😌 Is the act and process of weaving in of itself ( the journey ) considered just as important to you as the finished piece? Is your mindset and internal landscape while weaving integral to the finished piece, and is it something you like to think back on?
