How does intuition guide your creative process, and what does it feel like when you follow it?
“Intuition definitely drives a lot of my practice.
I never have a pre planned idea for how a work is going to look before I begin.
My favourite works are when marks arise from accidental forces that I cannot deliberately create.
For example while I was on residency at
@cloudstone Residency in Lutruwita/ Tasmania while I was preparing for my solo exhibition at
@art Leven Gallery I was painting on the floor in the studio.
I was using a combination of natural dyes I harvested from the surrounding landscape and traditional paints.
The floor was heated and when the natural dye seep through to the floor boards the dye reacted with the iron nails in the floor which made small black circles come through on the canvas.
When things like this happen I run with it not against it and when you allow for accidents to happen it opens up to new ways of creating and allows for a force other than yourself to be imbued into the work.”
